I'm a Senior Lecturer in Organisational Psychology at the University of Waikato. I am passionate about using psychology to improve our everyday working lives and my teaching, research and writing focus on this.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules on the application of Psychology to work. I also have experience of teaching Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management as well as Quantitative Research Methods training for doctoral students.

In my research, I'm engaged in answering questions such as "What kind of things can improve our well-being at work?" and "How different are we in our 'home' and 'work' roles, and how does it affect us?" I supervise several PhD students who are working on projects in these areas. You can find out more here.

When I'm not working

Travel

I moved to New Zealand in 2017 and before that lived in the UK for over half of my life, but also South Africa, the USA and Germany. I love travelling to new places on holiday, getting a taste of new cultures and learning a bit of my host country's language.

Baking

I like baking, and though I'm very rarely any good at following the recipes, the result is usually edible.

Kickboxing

I've done martial arts for years, the exact type depending on where I was living and what was around at the time: boxing, kickboxing, Thai boxing and most recently MMA. I once even managed to work up to my purple belt in kickboxing before moving again.

Say hi to Moddey, my devoted canine companion. I adopted him when he was 2 or 3, he's a complete sweetie with a strange, unreasoning fear of doorways that we're working on overcoming! He lounges around in my office while I'm working and keeps me company on runs.

Running from Zombies

I quite like running and this app is great for turning exercise into a game!
