Quality of work and positive psychology

I work for a company as a retail assistant, and have learnt to believe that if the staff do not get along, we cannot do our job properly. Psychology is important at work to help build those positive relationships with your colleagues, to ensure that we are all comfortable and working in a safe and fun environment. I personally feel that if I do not have a positive relationship with someone, then I fail to work with them in a team or discuss ideas together, and try to avoid them where possible (some may say immature but that’s my stubbornness showing), which results in neither of us growing as a person.

It was interesting for me to read the findings from Cable and Driscoll (2010) as quality of work was not one mainly talked about or practiced by the psychologists in the survey. I have always believed that a healthy quality of work place, will help benefit all the aspects of working such as; training and development as individuals will feel eager to learn more which will enhance performance management and recruitment could be based upon whether they will fit well into the team. Upon reading this study, maybe the level of hours worked or level of interest would change based on how the employees feel in those given fields of work.

I enjoyed an article by Deutch, as she talks about positive psychology and discusses that someone who is happy, is more likely to be productive and creative than someone who is unhappy. She also discusses 4 ways to use positive psychology in the workplace, and it put positive psychology into perspective for me of how important gratitude and being happy in your workplace is.
